How Is Nitrogen Used | Properties of Matter | Chemistry | FuseSchool

Nitrogen makes up approximately 78% of the air around us. In this lesson we will learn about nitrogen, its properties and its real-life applications. Nitrogen is a colourless, odourless gas at standard ambient temperature and pressure. Nitrogen is extracted from air using liquefaction and fractional distillation. These processes are explained in another lesson. Atmospheric nitrogen is naturally fixed or reacted to form a compound, into soils by lightning or certain types of bacteria. Nitrogen is an essential element in the structure of proteins and DNA but plants cannot obtain it from the air as the nitrogen nitrogen triple bond is very strong, so it has to be fixed into soils.…

How to Get & Post RESTful API Requests

RESTful web services provide a lightweight and secure way to move data between devices using hypertext transfer protocols. REST or representational state transfer is supported by both the SNAP PAC and groov api’s to make data store, variable and i/o tags available over either HTTP or HTTPS. In this workshop I’ll go over how to make both groov and SNAP RESTful requests, view the results, make API requests from Python and the command line, and finally I’ll use the software app named Postman to interact with the API. I will be posting data to and getting data from both this groov box and this SNAP PAC Learning Center. The groov…

[♪ INTRO ] We humans are obsessed with getting smarter. So besides your typical methods like school and hard work, we’ve also tried some pretty strange things in the name of brain enhancement. For example, Nikola Tesla would supposedly squish his toes 100 times on each foot to stimulate the brain cells, while Isaac Newton stuck with celibacy. Or there is just like popping some kinda magic pill like Bradley Cooper does in Limitless. Nootropics are a group of chemicals that supposedly heighten things like concentration, attention, and memory — without any side-effects. They’re so-called “smart pills.” Some of these drugs do seem to affect brain chemistry, but scientists aren’t…

Earth Overshoot Day 2017 lands on August 2

Hi folks, Alex here. Have you heard of the Ecological Footprint and Earth Overshoot Day? Our Ecological Footprint is how much we demand from nature. Currently, humanity is using the equivalent of 1.7 planets. Every year Global Footprint Network calculates Earth Overshoot Day. It marks the date when humanity’s demand on nature exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. In 2000, Earth Overshoot Day fell in late September, and in 2017, it falls on August 2nd. You can think about this as a bank account: for the first seven months and two days in 2017, we lived on our regular salary, after that we started chipping into our savings…
